Day 01    >>    August 9, 2026            >>>     Arrival Madrid         (- / - / D) WELCOME TO SPAIN  On arrival at Aeropuerto Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas, complete immigration formalities and transfer to the hotel for check-in.  Included Group transfer to the hotel is scheduled for 2:00 pm.  Enjoy some free time and relax.  This evening at 07:30 pm, enjoy a group Welcome Dinner joined by members of Spanish Astronomical Society (SEA), the country’s leading astronomy association*. Meet the other guests and your guide and partake in a facing discussion on your cosmic journey.  Overnight at your Hotel in Madrid

Day 02    >>    August 10, 2026    >>>     Madrid  (B / - / -)

  After breakfast, set off for a day of exploring Madrid, Spain’s exciting capital. Step into the heart of Spain’s royal heritage with a guided visit to the Royal Palace of Madrid, one of Europe’s most magnificent palaces. Explore its opulent halls, grand staircases, and ceremonial rooms filled with art, history, and splendour. To complete the experience, enjoy a panoramic tour of the Jardines de Sabatini, where symmetrical gardens and elegant fountains offer one of the best viewpoints of the palace façade.

Take a leisurely panoramic stroll through central Madrid, starting at the elegant Opera district  and continuing to the iconic Plaza Mayor, the city’s grand historic square. Along the way, learn about Madrid’s Habsburg past and vibrant street life. Continue your exploration at Puerta del Sol, Madrid’s bustling central square and symbolic heart of the city.

From there, walk through the streets of Madrid to visit the Royal Observatory, an 18th-century scientific landmark founded by King Carlos III. The observatory offers insight into Spain’s astronomical history and a unique perspective on the city’s Enlightenment-era ambitions.  The Observatory has an impressive collection of antique instruments used for various astronomical and meteorological activities, a replica of William Herschell's enormous telescope, 60 centimetres in diameter and with a focal length of more than 7 metres. In addition, a Foucault pendulum in the central rotunda illustrates the daily rotation of the Earth. The building is crowned by Grubb's large equatorial telescope from 1912. The Observatory library contains some of the oldest and most extensive documents on astronomy. After your visit, enjoy some free time to eat lunch by your own in one of the charming local restaurants.

After lunch, visit the Museo Nacional del Prado, Spain’s premier art museum and one of the most important galleries in the world, home to masterpieces by Velázquez, Goya, El Greco, and other European masters from the 12th to 19th centuries. Artwork includes collections tied to celestial bodies such as the constellation mosaic illustrations of Chigi Chapel in the Roman church of Santa Maria del Popolo, by Raphael. Enjoy some time in one of the most iconic galleries at your own pace. After that, head to your hotel to relax or join the evening optional tour. OPTIONAL TOUR: Discover the charm of Madrid’s oldest neighborhood with a guided walking tour through La Latina, a lively district full of history, hidden plazas, a traditional tapas tavern. As you wander the narrow medieval streets, your guide will share stories of the area’s Moorish roots, local legends, and the evolution of this bohemian enclave. After breakfast, meet your guide to start your journey to the historic city of Toledo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its rich blend of Christian, Jewish and Muslim heritage. Upon arrival, enjoy a guided visit of the majestic Toledo Cathedral, widely regarded as one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in Spain. Built over centuries atop the site of a former mosque, the cathedral reflects Toledo’s layered religious history and houses important works by artists like El Greco and Goya.

Next, take a short walk to the Cristo de la Luz Mosque, a small but significant 10th-century structure that predates the Christian reconquest and offers a rare glimpse into Spain’s Islamic past, with beautifully preserved horseshoe arches and original Arabic inscriptions. Continue to the Sinagoga del Tránsito, notable for its exquisite Mudejar architecture—a blend of Islamic and Jewish design. After the visits, take time to enjoy lunch on your own and explore the charming old town or browse local shops at your leisure. After this, meet your guide and board the coach for the return journey to Madrid. This evening, take part in a photography workshop specially designed to help you prepare for capturing the upcoming solar eclipse and the Perseid meteor shower. Day 04    >>  August 12, 2026            >>         Madrid >>  Burgo de Osma(B / - / -)

After breakfast, depart from Madrid for the picturesque town of Burgo de Osma. This culturally rich medieval town dating back to 1101 in its present form, and much earlier as an Arevacan settlement of Uxama.  It is the most picturesque town in all of Soria province.  In 1993, Burgo de Osma was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest.  The town and its surrounding countryside, are steeped in natural beauty and cultural significance.  Arrive at your hotel and check in before enjoying the hotel’s amenities, some free time and lunch on your own.

In the late afternoon, depart for Castillo de Gormazbuilt in 965, the largest fortress in Europe at that time.  This magnificent historic ruin serves as the perfect backdrop, a specially selected dark sky location to witness the awe-inspiring solar eclipse, a rare celestial event that will bathe the landscape in a dramatic darkness. As night falls, stay to marvel at the spectacular Perseid meteor shower, with shooting stars streaking across the summer sky. Enjoy refreshments under the starts, as you record these monumental events.  Return to the hotel later in the evening, after a magical night under the stars—the unforgettable highlight of your journey. After breakfast, meet your guide to go for a day tour to Soria. Start with a panoramic tour of the Palacio de los Condes de Gomara, appreciating its striking Renaissance facade and learning about its historical significance. Continue with a guided visit to the impressive Catedral de San Pedro, exploring its Romanesque cloister and rich architectural details. Afterward, take a walk-through Soria’s old town, soaking in its quiet charm before stopping for lunch at Meson Castellano to enjoy traditional Castilian cuisine, including the region’s renowned cochinillo asado. After breakfast, depart Soria and begin your journey toward the sun-drenched Spanish  Mediterranean coast. En route, stop in the enchanting town of Teruel, a hidden gem renowned for its Mudejar architecture, a unique blend of Islamic and Gothic styles recognized by UNESCO. Enjoy some free time to explore the historic center, admire landmarks like the Torre del Salvador and Teruel Cathedral, or simply relax  in one of its picturesque plazas. After a light lunch on your own, continue to Valencia, Spain’s third-largest city and a dynamic blend of old and new. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and take in the city’s vibrant atmosphere, where Gothic churches, futuristic architecture, and modernity coexist in perfect harmony. During the afternoon enjoy some free time to get to know Valencia at your own pace and do some souvenir shopping, a nice dinner or maybe just a glass of wine with some tapas. Start your day with a leisurely breakfast at your hotel and enjoy a nice relaxing morning at your own pace. Later, meet your guide to begin exploring the highlights of Valencia. Your first stop is the historic Torres de Serrano, one of the twelve gates that once formed part of the ancient city walls. These impressive medieval towers served as a defensive stronghold and offer panoramic views of the city from the top—perfect for some memorable photos. 

Next, head to the bustling Mercado Central, one of Europe’s largest and oldest covered markets. Here, you will find an incredible array of fresh local produce, seafood, meats, spices, and artisanal goods. Take your time to wander the vibrant stalls, and be sure to sample or purchase some traditional Valencian specialties. A short walk brings you to the Lonja de la Seda, a masterpiece of late Gothic architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built in the 15th century, this former silk exchange stands as a symbol of Valencia’s economic power during the Middle Ages.

After this cultural immersion, enjoy a leisurely late lunch on your own at one of the many charming cafés or restaurants nearby, where you can savor traditional Valencian dishes like paellafideuà, or fresh seafood. 

In the afternoon, visit the Iglesia de San Nicolás, often referred to as the “Sistine Chapel of Valencia” due to its stunning interior frescoes painted in the Baroque style. Depart Valencia after breakfast and travel north along the stunning Mediterranean coast. Arrive in the picturesque seaside town of Peñíscola for a scenic stop. This charming town is renowned for its impressive castle, which sits majestically atop a rocky headland overlooking the sea. The Peñíscola Castle was originally built by the Knights Templar in the 14th century. Later it became famously featured in productions such as Game of Thrones and El Cid. After your panoramic tour, enjoy some free time to relax on the Peñiscola beach and have lunch at your leisure

After lunch, continue your journey to Barcelona, the cosmopolitan capital of Catalonia, and designated fashion capital of Spain. Known for its bold architecture, vibrant street life, style, and artistic spirit, Barcelona is a city that seamlessly blends centuries of history with cutting-edge modernity.

Start your day early with a departure from Barcelona around to make the most of your excursion. The drive to Besalú takes about one hour and forty-five minutes, bringing you to a beautifully preserved medieval town famous for its impressive 12th-century Romanesque bridge spanning the Fluvià River. Upon arrival, take time to wander through Besalú’s narrow cobblestone streets, soaking up the medieval atmosphere and visiting landmarks such as the ancient bridge, the Miqvé, a rare medieval Jewish ritual bath, and the Sant Pere Church. You can also explore the remains of the old fortress and enjoy a coffee or a traditional Catalan pastry at a local café.

Mid-morning, leave Besalú for the short twenty-minute drive to Castellfollit de la Roca, a remarkable village dramatically perched atop a basaltic cliff overlooking the confluence of two rivers.
